Question Am I Tax Deductible for my clients?
Hey everybody,

Is it true that when businesses hire us it would be considered a tax deduction for them?

I would like to be able to mention "tax deduction" as a selling point when I talk to clients, but I want to be sure this what I understand to be true. Please tell me if this is correct information or not .

Thanks

Angela - Others more knowledgeable will weigh in here, hopefully, but I wanted to send out a caution message to you. I remember this coming up previously, though it was so long ago, I don't remember the specifics. But that deduction is only applicable in very special circumstances; and no, it's really not something you can advertise as a benefit.

Yes, you can. Any business expense that a business owner uses in conducting normal business operations is deductible. If they hired a plumber, accountant or other professional that would be deductible, and our services are, too.

If you do mention it as a "tax deduction," be mindful that they can also deduct employer paid employee taxes, wages, matching 401(k) contributions, insurance, etc., etc. for in-house employees.

HTH,

Y'all - Take a look at this thread from a while ago ... Does it pertain to this issue?

Kind of. The original question dealt with whether the costs for our services are a tax deduction for a business that hires us. Our services would be - on Schedule C, or whatever business entity tax form they are required to use.

Does that make sense, Mary?

While our services are tax deductible and you could mention it, I feel it is not the strongest selling point. Here is my reasoning: if the PC does their own taxes, they know this, if not, they probably are not concerned and let their accountant deal with it.

You should push the benefits you will provide (saving time, years of experience, getting the task completed, etc). Most companies that are thinking or now using a VA know all the benefits of saving office space, saving on taxes. It is well published so you may be better off to concentrate on what sets you apart as opposed to the norm of the industry.

hi
one of the things I came across for start business might be that the can deduct 5k deduction as a start up expense. Refer to NOLO small business deductions. At least this is what I got out of it. There some other benefits you may bring to a client attention.
