Default 1099 or not?
I have worked for many clients in 2008 and do not have all the 1099's when I earned over $600. Does anyone know if you are supposed to have them all, or just turn in income?

Thanks

There have been times in the past when I did work for a client that amounted to more than $600, but they never sent me a 1099. You still have to report it as part of business income.

It is YOUR responsibility to report all income, whether or not you receive 1099s. You have some kind of an income/expense tracking system in place, I assume?

No, you don't have to have the 1099 to give to the government. Only about half of my income last year was on a 1099, the rest was self-reported. Some of it I probably should have gotten a 1099, but really, it's not my responsibility to make sure clients give me a 1099, it's their responsibility. My responsibility is to accurately report all of my income to the government.

Also, anymore, you don't actually send 1099s or W2s in. They're all reported on a form, and you keep the copies for your own records.

I actually had the very same question a while back, there's a very long thread about it here: No 1099s, ever?

And yes, as long as you report all of your income, you'll be fine - don't worry!
