I have several options in storing backups. I have memory sticks ... one for each client; I back up daily onto my server; I do weekly backups on to CDs that are placed in a safety deposit box. I receive a discount on my insurance for keeping valuable documents, papers, software, etc. in a safety deposit box.

I also just store on a flash drive, but then it sits next to the computer ... Should there be a disaster (flood or fire or something) they'd both go! Must come up with something better NOW!

Hello

I do not store my clients files on my computer or print a hard copy. I save them on a CD rw, I can add more files as time goes along. When I find another way to handle this situation, then I will try it.

I state in my proposals, retainers and contracts that, "all work will be deleted from our computers, only your name and address will be kept in our database. We will however, provided client will a CD rw for their record or as per the clients request, file the CD in our office".

Confidentiality is a vital part of our business as VA's, any work I do for a client is either emailed or snail mail, on a project management site only a PDF format is used or the document is locked with a pass code.

What insurance company do you use, I need to find out about that company

Here's a good article on Google Docs, http://www.readwriteweb.com/archives..._hijacking.php. I also read a review that even though you say keep private or don't share, anyone
on the net can change information in the document.

I have a back up hard drive which I use once a month (should be more, I know) and I also use Carbonite which is fantastic!

After reading this thread I went searching and found a site called idrive. They do have paid accounts but they also have a free account with 2GB of storage. If you refer people you can get 10 more free. I am thinking with thumb drives and this, I should be covered for a while, that is until I get SO many clients I cant keep up

Has anyone else used Idrive?

I currently back up once a month to an external hard drive (once I get clients, this will be more often!), but it never occurred to me to put the hard drive in the fireproof safe I own!! Going to move it right now.....thanks for that tip!

I would not feel comfortable using online storage. I backup to another hard drive.
