Default Security Please
I have a potential big time client and he want to know
"what security precautions do you exercise to insure my personal & confidential information is protected"

I have McAfee installed on my PC. And all client documents with private info on them are password locked. I also provide clients with confidential agreement. What else can I do to make this client (and all my clients) feel more secure.

Please help

Can outside people access your computer?
Where are your client files stored in your house? Do other people have access to them?
Do you shred documents before throwing them away?
Do you work outside your home (at coffee shops, etc.)?
Do you have a firewall on your computer?
Do you have a local and/or offsite back-up system for your computer?

Just a few items I thought of.

I have a network set up at home which I use a password for so that other users cannot access my files but is there a way to password protect a clients folder as well? I am using Windows Vista.

If anyone knows how to password an individual folder on there PC can you please let me know how to do this?

Thank you,
Kim :-)

My client files are on a password protected 'volume' that was created using TruCrypt (free software, too!). This is an encryption program that allows you to create a completely encrypted folder and then attach it to a drive letter for ease of use. You have to enter a password to access the drive folder and you can set it to be invisible to the network. My 9-5 uses this with one of their government contracts to maintain the security of their data.

Smile Re: Security Please
Hi everyone!
I agree, as I thought about the security options when I purchased my laptop. I almost purchased the hard drive that was "encrypted" ready. After speaking with the Dell rep, he thought that the hard drive chosen was the best for what I needed to do. Hmmm, maybe I should have purchased the other. Anyway, I will make that a priority. I have the back-up system service as part of my agreement. I should probably contact the technical team to educate myself a little more on how and when to use this service.

Thanks for the gumball

Sincerely,
sy(Sheila)
