Exclamation Microsoft internet explorer security issues
Greetings everyone,

I am not sure if this is the best place to post this, but thought I should get it in somewhere in the forums....

I just found out that Microsoft Internet Explorer is having some serious security issues - and that it may be wise to use another browser until the problem is fixed. Here's an article in PC World which discusses the problem:

http://www.pcworld.com/businesscente...have_hole.html

Microsoft has an 'article' about this issue, which you can read here:

http://www.microsoft.com/technet/sec...ry/961051.mspx

Basically, from what it sounds like, hackers can get into your computer and steal passwords & data with Internet Explorer

I just switched in just a few minutes to Mozilla's Firefox web browser - it was pretty easy, but I haven't yet figured out how to switch the "Favorites" from IE to Firefox... (you can download that browser at www.mozilla.com). (btw, I didn't delete Internet Explorer - I just stopped using it until further notice).

Has anyone else heard about this?

I'd rather be safe than sorry!

Take care everyone!

Hey

My understanding of this issue is that it is a security breach that will be exploited by hackers when you visit a site that they have hacked. Most of the sites that exploit this issue are pornographic. I also understand that Microsoft will be issuing a fix to this bug in about 8 hours time.

I am not a MS IE fan at all and do not use their browser unless forced to by a particular site. I have used Mozilla's Firefox which is great but I now use another browser based on this called Flock because of the way it interacts with social bookmarking.

If you go into Organise bookmarks in Firefox it allows you to import from IE.

Hope this of some use.

btw I find it useful to have all 4 major browsers installed, IE, Firefox, Flock and Chrome.

I heard about that issue as well. I've been using different browsers instead of IE for the last couple of years. It has been much better. I've been using Firefox and Google Chrome as of late. A couple of ways to import from IE to Firefox are to click on File in Firefox and select Import. It should display a box that will allow you to import from IE into Firefox. You could also export your IE Favorites by having a look at this helpful article as well.

Wow, I feel like I have been in the dark ages in the world of browsers. I really appreciate everyone's feedback - and Virutalguy, your link really helped (I kept getting an error message when I tried using the import wizard, so these instructions to do it manually worked!). I feel computer competent now Yay.

Thank you!!!

We've been stuck with using IE for a long time. For me it was very problematic when there are critical updates or patches needing to be constantly released for IE browser. It got to a point where I completely lost confidence in it since it was always being exploited. I use it only when I have to because a site or web based application forces me to use it. I'm glad that the article was able to get you all taken care of and we were able to guide you in the right direction.
