Default I have a bad virus !!
Hi all,
Just wanted to tell you about my virus, at least I think its a virus, or a "hook" as my tek friend called it. A few weeks ago my Windows Mail folders disappeared (3 folders only but important ones). Two folders that I store important emails to reply back to and another was my folder that I keep just for VAF posts. They are not replaced yet, I know they are saved but I can't access them, still working on that. So I back up with Carbonite and Click Free external hard drive. I tried to restore them with Click Free. About 5 hours later, I got an influx of thousand of old emails and spam! I started deleting the old emails but everytime I log on this email accounts starts to propagate. So my clean email account now has the same thousands of emails. I am up to 3000 now in addition to my junk mail account, etc.
System Restore didn't work even in Safe Mode. I haven't done anything for the last 2 days but work on fixing this. I now decide its not fixable (Windows Mail) so I have to close out that account with tons of folders and export it to new accounts that I have to create. Also my firefox browser is not visable so I can't uninstall it and then reinstall it and my IE browser lost all its add-ons. I don't like Chrome too much since it doesn't have linking capacity.

So it made me think that "what would I have done if I had clients"?
For the first time I am glad I don't have any. So I now have to buy another PC really really quick. I just wanted to pass this one to you in case you have any of these horrible things happening to you. I don't know if this is the Confikr virus or something else. But I did protect my email account from sending out spam to my contacts. I did this last week before this happened. If anyone wants to know how to do this please send me a PM and I will respond.
Thanks for listening, I really really needed to vent

Jo-Carole

Why don't you just wipe it clean and reinstall your Windows on it?
If it's only your email program, I would use something like Carbonite to back up the documents and just exclude the email in your back up - it'll be easy to restore that way?

Or back up everything you choose to an external HD. I have one of those and they are wonderful.

I wish you luck, this kind of thing is a total PITA!!!

Hi Cheryl & Shelley. I do have double backups with Carbonite and my external Click Free. The problem is I have currently about 6000 emails in my current windows mail account and they are duplicates, triplicates and spam. It is hard sorting through this again and again. Also I finally got Firefox to appear. Most of the time now it is invisible even though it is running in the background. I just can't locate it. Also IE doesn't work anymore and all my passwords don't work anymore. Now my Skype phone is down and probably RingCentral is too. I don't have my landline anymore. When I click on a link it doesn't work. But I feel better. I have a plan and I am working on it now. Hopefully it won't take that long, I need to get back to work.. Thanks for replying..

Seriously, you don't need a new computer. Just reformat your hard drive. I would recommend taking it in to a tech support place and have them do it if you aren't familiar with it. I've had to do this before due to a virus. It's a pain, but it's not hard to do.

Awe man Jo!! I am so sorry this happen to you. Did you get my link for the HP that I saw on QVC? Isn't odd that this happened right after we talked about computers!!!

I hope you can get yours fixed instead of having to buy a new.

Hi Andrea

Everything is ok now
This happened a while back and at the time I wasn't sure if it was a virus or something to do with the file restore that I did. But things went back to normal after a few weeks. Good thing I had my old laptop on hand. Thanks

Hi Jodith
I know, I just wanted one
I know how to reformat hard drives, at least I should, I learned that when I went to computer school last year, but you're right, it is a pain that's why I didn't do it. Just when you are backlogged, something like this happens....
Thanks, appreciate your help!

HAHAHAHAHA....can't blame you there. The husband and I are both techies (and gamers) so we're always lusting after new (or at least updated) machines.

Did you ever build a computer? I would love to do that, I was planning on that and researched for a week exactly what I wanted to put in it. There is a great site I found " superpc.com". But I never built it
Got busy again and then my desktop got over being sick
But one day would love to build one exactly to my specifications. Has to be a lot of fun I would think!
