I've been using Windows OneCare after talking to the networking guy from my old company, I was using McAfee prior to that. Because I connect to a mortgage services company I was told to get something other than the free programs. So that is what I did.
For fee antivirus I would recommend either AVG or Eset Nod32 both can be downloaded for free. You may want to use it also side by side with Spybot Search and Destroy.
For paid I go with Kaspersky all the way which can be also downloaded and use for 1 month then you need to buy the program.
We have used AVG FREE on our computers for years. When we would get new computers, they come with free trials of others software. When this happened we tested the AVG FREE against those other brands and found that AVG FREE catches more viruses than others.
Yes, AVG FREE is great!! I've even used it in conjunction with McAfee and Norton, and it's picked up stuff when the other two said it ws clear. We use it at my work as well and has been recommended by just about every tech repair person I've talked to.
I myself as well as many other VAs I know find McAfee as being one of the best. The price isn't bad and I was able to purchase it at a discount for the year.
