Default Free Antivirus
Hello,

Can anyone recommend a reliable, FREE anti-virus software?

My Internet service provider gives us CA security suite free. Not sure what the cost might be to buy it but it seems to work very well. Have you checked with your Internet service provider to see if they provide any type of anit-virus software?

I highly recommend AVG. I have used it for several years and a number of computers.

I agree also AVG. AVG and Firefox are the first two things I download and install when I get a new computer.

I used the AVG free version and then I got the paid version and have been happy with both of their products. If you can afford it at all, I recommend getting the paid version, it was $30 or $40 but the license lasts for three years.

I wonder if AVG will do any better than the CA suite I'm using. Think I'll give it a try on one of my computers. At my 'old' day job, we used Norton for everything but it slows my computer down too much.

I have tried at least ten different anti-virus software programs, and AVG is the only one that doesn't slow down my computer or cause other problems/conflicts. I think you'll be pleasantly surprised, Jenny.

Hey, about once a month I also use Trend Micro's free online virus scan, HouseCall (http://housecall.trendmicro.com/), as a backup in case AVG missed something. The full purchased software version of Trend Micro really slows down my computer, but by using the free online scan as a backup scanning source, I just get a wee bit of added protection.

Happy Thanksgiving!

I've been using Avast free home version for 3 years now and it's great. www.avast.com. Pure virus scanner only, nothing else.
