Default ClickFree external drive - data restoration results
Clickfree Restoration

I wanted to post this for anyone who is interested in a Clickfree external drive. It seems we all back up our files but do we actually know if they are capable of restoring our data in an emergency?

I tested this system yesterday since my hard drive was making some horrible noises, really scary, and I was afraid I would lose my files. Thank goodness this was not the case but I am glad now that it happened since I had time to test my ClickFree and see how well it worked.

These are my findings.

Saved earlier and later versions of the same folder. This could be a bit confusing thinking the updated version wasn’t saved until you finally found it later.

Saved some folders twice.
Some folders I had moved inside another folder, which it saved, but it also saved the original folder by itself.

What I do like is that each file/folder retained the name I gave it and didn't assign their own code or numbers. Going through all the files/folders took me a long long time and I just finished it up today. I had to check all of my work folders just to make sure that everything was intact. This would have been impossible to do if my other hard drive did fail. It would have to be from memory. That would be kind of hard with 423,000 files/folders.

What I didn’t like about it was the fact that it deposited folders on my desktop that should have been with my documents in my ‘document library’ in Windows 7 and vice versa. So I had to put them back where they belonged which wasn’t hard since I just checking my folders anyway. I created 2 folders, one for my documents and one for my desktop. Then I put them back in their right places when I was done.

*I checked a lot of folders but not all, as I said I have over 423,000 files. But every folder that I checked was there so I feel confident with ClickFree as one of my backup systems*.

I am going to start restoring my files today with Carbonite and will post the results when I done to see how it stacks up with ClickFree. Hope this helps anyone a little bit when deciding on what backup system to use.
