I also have a sub rate that I use as a professional courtesy when subbing for fellow VAs. I feel the difference compensates the other VA for their time dealing directly with the client.

I think Cathryn is right, it would be worth the time to find the right ESTABLISHED VA - someone who is in this "for the long haul." That way you have someone you can count on when you need them.
