Default Will a profile on My Space help with SEO?
Hello everyone.

I was wondering if creating a profile on myspace would work with the seo or at least help. I was submitting my url to the Alexa web and they were recommending myspace. But....I don't know if this could harm my reputation or if it would be a good way to promote. Any feedback?

Hi Viviana
Others who actually utilize MySpace will likely have more input on this for you but from a strictly SEO standpoint I don't think social networking sites can do much to improve your site's search ranking. They can, however, offer a widened area of exposure for you and your business name simply by their nature (friends and colleagues link to friends and colleagues; message boards, etc.)

I will say that sites like LinkedIn that are business focused may be a bit more effective in terms of actually making viable business contacts just because they were started on the premise of helping people enhance their business and professional network.

I agree with Tess. My Space is just s social networking site. You will be basically letting friends and family know about your business. I don't think it will do any harm but won't generate much business. This being said, I use facebook to let everyone know about my new business.

I use MySpace but it is strictly professional. I have a separate page for friends/family that I have set to private. I have made some good contacts through there, but their forums are pretty worthless, just full of spam. To avoid spam on my profile I check each and every profile before accepting them as a friend. When searching for new contacts I search for people in my target market and then sent them a friend request.

I am on a lot of sites, Linked In, Start-up Nation, Xinga, Facebook, Merchant Circle, etc. I have had made the most good contacts through MySpace.

I don't disagree at all that social networking sites are a great way to find potential clients and great contacts, but have you noticed any particular SEO benefit from your MySpace profile? I just don't think the value of a MySpace page (in terms of search ranking, etc. based on my own knowledge) would make much difference in that regard.

I'm not fond of Myspace, but I can't afford hosting and I had thought very briefly of creating a page for VA work, mostly as a tool to include when sending e-mail but now I'm not sure. I'm afraid that it'll look too casual.

Also, don't laugh but I've never heard of Face book, so would someone mind explaining?

Facebook is similar to MySpace but was started initially with educational systems in mind so it offers networking based on class schedule at high schools, etc. and provides a new way for teachers to interact with their students (of course it has all the usual trappings of a MySpace type site as well)

You know Alunasa, one thing you might think of doing is setting up a free blog somewhere initially. We've got an entire tutorial here on how to do just that and end up with a complete VA business site Give it some thought, it may be just the solution you're looking for.
