I was just wondering what people are doing to make sure their sites are moving up in Google. SEO? GoogleAdwords? Paid ads? All of the above?

I need to start taking on this task and am looking for suggestions.

Study SEO, and implement it as much as you can. If you want to climb higher in Google searches, that's the mechanism. There are many free online tutorials. Expect the process to take some time. Combine it with social media marketing.

I've much work still to do, and I believe it has to be ongoing and neverending, but having worked on promoting for the past week suddenly a search on my company name brings it up first ... woohooo! More by luck than judgment I can assure you ... right now I know as much about SEO knowledge as as brick wall. I'll learn as much as I can and try different things as right now I can't afford a SEO "expert". As anyone can hang out a shingle I wonder just how many SEO experts really know what they're doing?

Some time ago I posted an RFP on another forum for an SEO expert. One guy told me my site was in frames and was hopeless. My (very well known household name) web host said it was not in frames at all and promoting in my own somewhat uneducated way in the past week my site is popping up nicely. Hmmm, maybe I'll just go on doing what I've been doing as it seems to be working.

I think at the moment, i have been working on getting my link listed on as many directories as possible. I am also going to study SEO and that can give me some extra tips,

This is great advice, I love reading this! Amber, yes I've heard that Google gives preference to blogs like Blogger and Wordpress. I have blog capabilities on my website that I was thinking of going with, but I may go with the Blogger or Wordpress anyways.

Anyone know of any online tutorials for SEO?

There are websites out there where you can start a live chat with the SEO staff and they will look into your website for you and tell you what to change to increase your google page ranking. I cannot remember any of the particular sites but I will search and post them on here at a later date, unless someone beats me to it.
