Before I could get started on SEO, I had to at least add some meta tags to my website and I had NO idea to do that as far as formatting the HTML and where to add it.

Here are two good links I found, both of which have a generator which means you just add in the keywords and site description and it will generate the code, then you just copy and paste it into your website HTML.

I have done this but every time I enter the html on to my website it does not show. It's like it's invisible, I can go back and update the html but it still does not show on the site... Is that the point? Sorry...I'm really new when it comes to Meta Tags...

Right, you don't want the information to show up. The meta tags - keywords and description - is what the search engines pick up on.
