SEO, Internet Marketing...HELP - Virtual Assistant Forums

It's everywhere! SEO, Internet Marketing, etc. The jobs are out there but I have NO experience. I've googled the subject several times and get more confused each time. Does anyone know of a decent website that will help me learn this new technology?

Thanks Andrea. Just having one of those down days. I had a steady client for 4 months and the project ended 3 weeks ago. I'm trying to stay focused on learning new skills while keeping a positive attitude. But the bills keep piling up!!!!

SEO is something you'll want to not only read about but learn and get good at by DOING - once you start to gather good information [check through some of the threads here on VAF in this section and visit SEOMoz too as a good first start] use your own site or a sample site to test out what you're learning.

Because the search engines, Google in particular, will change their algorithms and you can never really know what those are, you'll find the right 'formulas for success' through trial and error.

One bit of advice, when you do start to offer SEO as a service - be sure your own site is fully and properly optimized.

I think SEO is a mystery for most of us. Some time ago I placed an RFP on another forum where I was a member (I will not renew by the way for reasons that have been expressed here in different posts about other forums).

I have several responses, one a guy in Australia who purported to be an SEO expert. He told me my website was in frames. I contacted my (top rated) host who said "rubbish, it is no way in frames". Since then I have avoided so called SEO experts - no disrespect to anyone.

By fiddling about by myself, adding content, social media, links and so on, my website has shot up in the rankings and I discover daily so much more I can do to get the search engines to see me.

Am I a SEO expert? Good Grief, no, I'd rather be out running my dogs in the woods at sunrise as I do every day, but somehow my mickey-mouse efforts in a number of ways seem to be helping.

What do I know? Nothing - Just my humble two pennyworth!
