SEO guru makes $132,000+ in one month-read his blog, check your own SERPs while there
Hamid has been following this guy for a while now, Shoemoney Blog (funny name for a seriously successful blog!) and I've started to dip into this guy's bag of tricks and info when it comes to SEO as well.
There are very few true SEO gurus out there, this is one of them.
Here's a bit of proof:
Can't see the total amount? It's an Adsense (monthly) check for 132,994.97
Now, I realize you're running a VA business site and Adsense doesn't really have much place there (IMO) However, you can still learn alot from checking out the Shoemoney blog and while you're there, check your ranking in the SERPs with his easy SERP tool here (happy to report that as of this posting Virtual Assistant Forums is number one all around, except - inexplicably in Yahoo, which doesn't rank us at all Oh well!)

Sheesh. Y'know, I absolutely never click on Google ads, never even look at them. Who has time? But they work, big time, I guess. Amazing.

Wow. I got an email about another guy named Joel Comm that has a blog and a book about the same thing. Apparently he's made some mega bucks too. I Googled Joel Comm and stumbled across a message board where Shoemoney (I think it's the same guy) asked if Joel Comm was a fraud.
Joel Comm responded to the thread to defend his name. You can read it here it's pretty interesting.

I'm new to SEO and adsense. But I was under the impression that advertisers set up ads on adsense and pay a fee to Google based on the amount of clicks the ad gets. Is that right? If that's the case, how do these guys get a check?? I'm not sure how that works. Does anyone know?

The publisher (the site owner) places the Google Ads on their website and they take a portion of the per-click price for each ad. When you've got sites like DP and Shoemoney with hundreds of thousands of users a month the click rate goes way up - Google cuts them a monthly check.
I've never heard of the other guy you've mentioned.

Oh ok. Makes sense. I guess I should read up on that. Even if I didn't get a check as large as his some amount of residual income wouldn't be bad. But it only works well if you have a lot of traffic coming through your own site, right?

Unless you have a forum, a very active blog, a directory, or some other kind of interactive content it's really not advisable to put these kinds of ads on your site. If you're referring to putting ads on your VA business site I'd STRONGLY advise against it - it will look unprofessional and cheapen the site.
There would be no real point to placing ads on a professional business site as the content is generally static and any income you reap from those ads would first, be very meager, and second would detract from the experience of your potential clients.
The reason I posted this thread was to direct people to read Shoemoney's blog, which is a great resource of info on SEO and marketing in general...

He's supposedly the first guy to do what Shoemoney is doing now. He's offering one of his books that was $97 when it first came out for $9.95 now. I thought of buying it just to learn some stuff about SEO but the things he was talking about sounded so much like get-rich-quick-schemery I opted for the free one to see how I like that first. Here's his website:

There are TONS of people who've successfully monetized their websites over the years. Arguing about who is the first is like arguing who the first VA was....ultimately, it just doesn't matter and is more a marketing ploy than anything else.
Anyway, Shoemoney's blog is very much worth reading, as are numerous other SEO blogs. His is just one of a handful that I particularly enjoy and ultimately have a lot of respect for as someone who also offers SEO services to clients, not to mention work on my own sites - there's a lot to learn there.
