Link your website to a free business listing service. Sometimes Google will crawl the service and pick your site up from there. Also Google has a section to "submit your URL"

I have a prospective client who is interested in SEO help and web updates beginning in mid November, so I know this will definitely be a good resource for me to sharpen my (little) knowledge in this area. Thanks so much!

Although I too love Dummies books I would be leery of buying a book on search engine optimization since SEO changes so much so often and is more art than science.

Just be sure to include both some on-page optimization and some off-page optimization if you really want to get some bang for your buck.

I wish I had time to put together a list of resources & procedures that I use and have found effective however I'm under a tight tax deadline right now (October 15th-Deadline for all those April 15th extensions).

If anyone is interested I'll try to put together a resource post next week (or perhaps an SEO guru can chime in?).

I would definitely recommend this book! I bought it a few week back and I've only got about 100 or so pages left to read.

I didn't understand anything about seo before reading this. I thought all you had to do were to put your website on google etc and that was it! Far from it. As I'm reading it I have made so many notes of things that I need to do that would boost the ratings etc.

Leslie - I totally understand what you mean about the book getting out dated as time goes on. I think the edition Ive got was done in 2008. I could be wrong though. Its given the basics of what needs to be done if things have changed. Dont know about anyone else but Id be interested if you could do a resource post.
