Default Meta Tags question
I am in the process of building my website, a first for me, and have a ton of questions. Can someone tell me what the best meta tags are? Some are really obvious, but are there some that get better results than others? I really don't know much about this and am using a template for the design, but from what I can figure out, if you use the meta tags frequently on your website pages, you will get more visits? Sorry, these really sound like dumb questions, but I would still appreciate some feedback. Thanks.

Hi Pam, Why not get your answer straight from the mouth of google? They released a search engine optimization guide that someone posted a link to elswhere on this forum. It addresses the meta tag question. Here's the link: http://www.google.com/webmasters/doc...rter-guide.pdf

Good luck,
Kathleen Kindred

Hi Pam, the link Kate posted in a superb place to start learning about these things. As is the Search Engine Optimization (SEO) section of the forums.

To answer your question more directly - I think that you should include whatever meta tags best describe the site or page you're writing them for - you want to think about what people will be typing in to find you and your services. But don't include too many.

And really, you want to focus on your actual content more than things like tags - Google does, and so do your visitors. Meta tags and similar are secondary, so spend that extra time writing great, well optimized text on each of your pages and treat meta tags like the 'frosting' that they are

Hope that helps a bit!
