Default Labeling Images Properly for SEO?
Hello,

I am working on setting up a blog for a fairly new client, who btw, I found here at VAF. (I responded to an RFP and I never heard back, so I followed up and then got the account. So, please do follow-up even if you never hear back from a PC. Sometimes the initiative pays off.)

Anyway, I am posting some cool photos using the image uploader. This tool asks to title the images and input a description. If you don't offer some type of description a warning comes up that a description is necessary.

So my question is to anyone who inputs images into sites and blogs, what kind of a description do you use?

Do you use keywords relative to the site? Do you just describe whatever the photo is? Do you use the domain address in the description or the company name or both?
Or do you title the images in some other way?

I'm thinking (perhaps incorrectly) that the image descriptions offer some kind of SEO so I would like to optimize this tool if that is indeed the case.

Thank you.

Janine

You can use alt tags to describe the photos as well as meta tags for your photos. Both will help with your SEO as long as you are using keywords for your clients target market.

Using image alt tags allow readers who can not "see" or have low vision to "see" the photo, they will get the visualization from your description.

Someone with low to no vision, searches the web for "accessible" websites and this will increase your clients SEO.

Janine,

Think of the image tags/descriptions in this light. If you could not see and were using a reader for web surfing what you put in the description is what is read for the person. Example: [image] blue sky - [desription] Here is the most beautiful blue sky that I experienced on my recent trip to Timbucktoo.

You want to describe the image for the visually impaired however these descriptions are indexed so you want to add some key words and SEO to them as well. Don't go overboard but use the area wisely for SEO purposes.

Hope this helps.

Hi Janine,

I just wanted to put this little tidbit in in case others also need assistance for how to do photo alt tags.

Hi Andrea and Lee,

Thanks for the information.

Ordinarily, I just type in the description of the photo directly into the image uploader (tree icon) in the edit tool bar but I thought I should use the domain name or keywords instead to gain some SEO.

I don't believe the image uploader asks for alt tags with this feature.

Thank you both!
