Default Great Little Tool - check your SEO
A friend sent me this link today. Its a great tool to check how your site is being indexed by those creepy little spiders. Its free and gives you a score (my site didn't do so good, YET!) and recommendations for raising that score.

That was interesting. I don't think I did too bad, seeing as how I know nothing about web design.

This is the gist of what mine said.

Company Virtual Business Services
URL http://vbsofok.com/
Date Fri 14 Mar 2008, 1:55.44pm
Comments Overall grade 16/24 (67%)
No H1 text
Some images don't have descriptions
Page is large (35k)

It said the images should have Alt tags, I read about this somewhere, I guess I need to look into it again. I've also read about H1 text but not sure how to go about that either. Can any of you web guru's give me a quickie on this? It says the page is large but it also said in the report it loaded fast so I'm just going to leave it as is for now.

Rebecka,

I also began at 67%. Funny. What I did for the img tags was open the file in notepad, hit ctrl + f and type in img. At the end of each img tag there is a alt="". Just put something like your business name or a 1-2 word description in between the quotes. Then upload the page and run the diagnostic again. It will tell you if you missed any. Be careful not to delete the quotes or the tag won't work and the diagnostic will say it still needs alt tags.

The one I can't figure out what to do with is the H1 thing. All of my headings and stuff are setup in my style sheet so I can't just go adding headings in the middle of my page. Any suggestions?

This is great - here are my results!

Company Oakville Admin
URL http://www.oakaa.com/
Date Fri 14 Mar 2008, 3:57.36pm
Comments Overall grade 23/24 (96%)
No immediate problems

I got 1/2 on body text - it says there are 132 words. I wonder if that means there are too many or there aren't enough?
