Default Candy (link exchange) from a stranger
I received a request for a link exchange:

Quote:
From: EMAIL REMOVED

Greetings;

My name is NAME REMOVED and I'm in charge of getting links for my website. I have visited your site sunrisevirtualsolutions.com and I think a link exchange could benefit us both because they have a related subject.

I'm offering you the following: If you place a link on the homepage of your site, I'll place a link to your website in my site.

And these are the websites where I would place a link to your site:

xxbeta.com HOMEPAGE

As you can see, this site have a decent PR and have a related subject, so if you are interested, reply to this mail, send me your link information ( TITLE, URL ) and I would gladly add your link soon as possible, in the next 24 hours. Then I will send you an email with my link information to be placed at yours.

Thanks a lot for your attention, hope to hear back from you.

Best regards

PLEASE NOTE THAT THIS IS NOT A SPAM OR AUTOMATED EMAIL, IT'S ONLY A REQUEST FOR A LINK EXCHANGE. YOUR EMAIL ADDRESS HAS NOT BEEN ADDED TO ANY LISTS, AND YOU WILL NOT BE CONTACTED AGAIN.
xxbeta.com is an actual website. I'm all for exchanging links if they are with someone I know, or have heard of. I visited this website. Their copyright is out of date (I look at this sort of thing because it lets me know if they actually care about their business - it just "says something" to me - it's late and my brain is shutting off, LOL). The site isn't all that professional (in my opinion). Nothing about any individual or company head named, unless you count the page link on their about page (Home > About Us > Victoria Miles) - but no mention of Victoria Miles there (or Dennis Anderson). On the Confidentiality page, the links give ya a popup. Oy.

The site has a PR of 2. Think they are out of Argentina.

Is this a joke? (Only kidding here - think the guy is actually looking for links.)

IF I reply, I'll kindly say "no thanks." Any links I do are going to be top-notch VA sites that I admire! I ain't takin' no candy from a stranger.

Okay, done rambling. Out of curiosity, would any of you exchange links with this site? Or did I change your mind with my rambling here? Anyone heard of this guy?

P.S. Don't mean to be unkind in this post; just found this email "interesting."

No I wouldnt, in fact I've had similar emails - I just delete them as I assume they're spam to be honest.

Link exchange is pretty much a waste of time SEO wise anyway - you need people to link to your site without a reciprocal one back as it counts for more (so I understand).

Personally I'd hit "delete" and forget all about it...

Hi Jules,

I delete these when I receive them. I get them all the time.

You know, my boss received a Wordpress linkback approval request from something very similar. It came to my attention because the linkback was for a blog posted last year (Normally she doesn't forward these on to me). After explaining to her what a linkback was and that it could be a good thing, I told her to let me check on the website first. It was a uk blogsite...I think FixedConveyance was what it was called...The blog was basically empty, so I tagged it for spam. But it wasn't a share request. It was an actual linkback request.

It don't understand the point of this unless it's some virus type of thing where you approve it and your website blows up or something.

I had a client before who asked me to do this type of thing. Actually, people are sending requests for link exchange to his site. What I do is ask the person who emailed to put our link first on their site and then once it's up, that's the only time I add them on ours.

There's really no problem doing this if you wish but it's always better that the site you're exchanging links has a higher page rank.

If you were to do it, request they add YOUR site first!

They automatically get marked as spam. I don't trust them. All the ones I've gotten except for one were very suspicious. I don't do link exchanges. If there is a resource I find valuable it just put it on my site. So linkback necessary. I want to share what I like. So I just have a no link exchange policy sort of. It's kind of a silent policy I guess, but I just don't do it.

Also to add, if you do want to exchange links then make sure they are to a related site. Having a load of links to random websites won't be helpful to anybody.
