Do this for your logo and any other images you use on your site; and be sure to include good keywords (Virtual Assistant is the most obvious, but there are other variations on this that you can use...)
Hi Jackie, if you just use this little bit of info you should be OK For your logo, make the alt tag the name of your company 'Winslow Girl Virtual Assistant' - etc. I'm not sure if your template program will add it for you on all of your pages, I think you'll have to add it individually for each page.

Let me know how it goes!

Quite a lesson here?! This is good information to have though. I am STILL working out my website. But I just ran across this post about setting up a blog initially, which I think is a great idea. Since I'm having such a hard time deciding how I want to handle the whole website aspect of my business. I'm just wondering with all this talk of search engines and the like if I make a blog and then switch over to an actual website will it reflect as a negative on my site?

Tess, if I wanted to put a tag let's say, on the rate calculator code, where would the alt...go?

The rate calculator is not an image - it's an application so you don't add one there. But on your picture of yourself, your logo, etc. then it is applicable.

Copy the code EXACTLY as it appears, substituting your own image URL and tag content:

Here's how:
Get into your website code or template and wherever you see
<img src="www.yourimagelocationaddr ess.com">
add this little bit of info to the code alt="ENTER DESCRIPTIVE TAG HERE"
so it looks like this instead:

<img src="www.yourimagelocationaddr ess.com" alt="ENTER DESCRIPTIVE TAG HERE" />

I still add alt tags to all my images (or whatever the heck you want to call them LOL) - and I've heard from some that meta tags are no longer weight heavily by the search engines but I still add them too. Even a little tiny edge works for me!

Pam, you're absolutely right that meta tags don't really get much weight any longer but they're still worth doing, so it's good that you've included them in your backend SEO work

Ultimately, it's content that makes the biggest difference - and properly presented content at that. That's why image tags (whatever we call them ) can be so helpful - they're an added bit of text where the search engines would otherwise see nothing.

Would this same code work for my Microsoft Office Live Small Business website? I have been told that I cannot do it on MS Office Live - except trying it out in the footer. I am open for suggestions if anyone has any to share. Thank you.

Diann, I was looking up the same thing when I was doing my site, but could not find any way of doing it. I was thinking of having it with the image before I upload it to the gallery, but have not tried to do it yet, don't know if it's even possible.

If this is so, what can we do to get our sites noticed by the search engines? (Other than add alt tags to images, lol)
