A friend of mine was recently contacted to print checks (payroll I believe) and send them out UPS. The guy is paying her via western union and lives in the UK.

How do you know if it is legit?

Well it depends on if she is printing them out using her own account or if she is using their account. Also, there is not a lot of information in your question in order to really give you an idea if it is a scam or not.

How was your friend contacted? And I am very leery of any one wanting me to send money to anyone that does not have an established bank account set up.
I would check this company out very carefully and call the BBB and see if they have had any complaints.

Please let us know how it goes and what your friend does.

Yes I am very leary as well! She had to buy some special software $24.00 and all she does is enter the names and dollar amounts and print the checks. He sends her a list of the names and he pays for the UPS to ship out the checks. He has paid her so far for the work. He is looking for more help and I am interested if it is legit. I don't want someone suing me for fraud tho!

My concerns would be a) who signs the checks? If it is her, CUT AND RUN!!

b) did she verify that the bank accounts are legit WITH THE BANK? This type of deal is OFTEN a scam as the checks are sent as payment for goods but the bank account doesn't exist. I would suggest she contact the bank and just make sure the account number is valid.

I received an email a few months back when I put an add in on craigslist. I have always heard that if they only want to "chat" on the messengers and send you money via western union, then its a scam. Well, this email said they would give me $800.00 to disperse checks and said he was hearing impaired and would communicate through chat. Also, was wanting to pay me only western union. So I did some research and those were the two things that tipped me off. They also wanted me to purchase the checks and VersaChecks as well (I believe thats the name). My opinion is to not do it.
