Default Quick Question...(real estate virtual asssitant related)

Hi Everyone,

I live in Canada and I have a potential client who is a real estate agent. She would like me to complete her follow-up calls after mailing a street just listed cards.

My question is this: Do you have to be a licensed assistant to make these calls? This is her impression, but I don't believe it to be true.

Any thoughts would be great!

I'm not sure about Canada, but even here in the states each state has different rules. However, you normally don't have to be licensed to provide administrative duties or make calls, you just can't discuss price or do any negotiations.

Rebecka is right. I was a licensed agent in Tallahassee, Florida. Here in Florida you can return client calls to schedule appointments and direct them to where they can find more information about your agent's listings. But you cannot discuss price, offers or property details. However, every state is different.

Perhaps you should check with the Board of Realtors in your area or your province's licensing board/authority. They should be able to give you more details about what you can and cannot do as an assistant to a realtor.

Good luck

Thanks for the responses. I too, believed that I could make the calls but could not discuss money etc with the potential client.
I am going to investigate further - just to be sure!

I work for a Real Estate Investor in Florida. I do make reminder and follow up calls, mailings, correspondence. I do not discuss money or legal matters with clients.

Hi Vanessa

I believe I know who you're talking about

She had told me (if it's the same person) that in order to make follow up calls you had to be licensed. I think she learned that at her new brokerage. A quick call to the MLS office in that part of Ontario would probably give you your answer!

Hi Jaime,

Yes, we are talking about the same person !

I have followed up with her, but have not heard anything....

To my understanding you do not have to be licensed to complete follow-up calls. My sister works for another Realtor within the same brokerage and she is not licensed and completes follow-up calls.

As everyone mentioned above, as long as you are not talking about money, trying to sell the house etc....a virtual assistant should be within their limits.

We will see what happens!

Hi,

The average rule here is - you can confirm the information the lead is requesting, etc. ASk them questions - BUT, DO NOT ever discuss any particular home - such as square footage, price, etc. General questions about the agents services can be answered. Anything specific to a piece of property you can take down the question and tell them you will have the RE agent contact them with the answer.

If you still need confirmation call the local board that your agent is a member of to confirm what you can and can't do.

Hope this helps!
