Question Do You Have A Real Estate License?
Hi All!

I was on another thread and the topic of conversation turned to whether or not it was beneficial for a REVA to have a real estate license. ut:

I would be interested to hear your thoughts and opinions. Do you hold one? Have you found it a help? Or do you not have on and not see why it makes a difference? :ears:

I don't have one, yet. I'm thinking about getting the real estate assistant license. I asked the same question on active rain and the realtors that responded seemed to think it was a good idea.

I obtained my real PA real estate license in 2003 but I don't have any experience. I was supposed to support a friend of mine but he had an accident and had to quit the business before I got a chance to work with him. He is now on disability and does not work.

Do you think I could incorporate this into my VA business? I'm not sure I want to specialize but maybe take on a realtor client or two. I've seen ads in the paper for real estate assistants and usually they don't want to pay much more than $10 or $12 per hour.

Your thoughts??

Thanks!

Lori

I think you could incorporate real estate work into your business. You would have to do some selling to sell them on your rate. Do you have testimonials from past clients that you could use on your website?

Here in Canada it would be very beneficial to have a real estate license if you are marketing to RE agents. I know that some agents do use VAs to do calls to clients and upload files to the MLS system, BUT, several agents have told me that they can get in trouble with their associations if they have an unlicensed assistant do this kind of stuff for them. Some do it anyway and consider the fine a cost of doing business, but the people I've talked to won't do it.

I think it's an expensive and time consuming process to get the licence. People I know who have their licenses really sweated over the studying. I also think most agents won't spend the money on having someone do their admin work for them, especially since real estate agencies hire in-house office staff at $8-$10 per hour.
