Smile Currently Office Mgr for RE Company - what are my limitations?
Hi! Just joined this wonderful forum! I am currently working as an office manager for a real estate company and I want to add REVA to my professional organizer company I also own. Does anyone know of any other limitations other than what was posted earlier (thanks for the info) I do a lot of marketing for the office and know that I would not be able to do anything for any local agent due to conflict of interest, but is there any other services that I could provide without conflict? As far as I know - my bosses do not want me doing any advertising for any other agency within a 25-30 mile radius. Any info will be greatly appreciated! Bridget J

I just wouldn't advertise my service in the same State period. Then you don't have to worry about it. That's the great thing about being a VA, you aren't limited by location.

Is it an international real estate company or a local one?

With non compete issues in place, this should not be an issue since you will be doing business on your own time and with your own resources. Did you sign an employment stating otherwise?

I work for a Financial Rep and most of my time is dedicated to him. However, I have the ability to work for other FR's in the same company if I want. I just plan to have each understand my confidentiality guide lines before moving forward.

Is it different for real estate?

I can see the conflict of interest when it comes to the company you work for. Weather or not you have a contract with the employer about not doing work for other local agents, it could be a tricky issue.

I do currently work with more than one agent in certain market areas, but I am an independent business owner and my agents don't really have a problem with it. Some of them ever referred me to their agent friends in the area. But I completely honest and open with all of my clients, keep things confidential, and they are all pretty much aware that I am working with the other agents in their area.

That being said, if your employer does have a serious problem with it, then I think what Rebecka said is right. As long as you market outside of your state or market area, you should be fine.

Thank you for all of your information. I did not have to sign any contract when I started with the company as a receptionist, nor when I was promoted to office manager. I will, to avoid conflict of interest and company loyalty, market to different states. They just had to cut my hours back due to the bad economy and lack of home sales - so now I have more time to market my VA business!
