Default Commission
Do any of you take a commission on houses/property you find for clients?

Zachary, that is a good question. It depends on the laws of your particular state. Because of what has happened in the real estate and mortgage industry the past few years, the laws have tightened up. In almost all cases, you will find a license is required in order to be paid a commission. In fact, you may not even be able to quote the asking price without a license. Check carefully. The fines can be hefty.
Go online to the Department of Real Estate for your state.

One of my larger clients and I looked into this once, she is a broker, and does recruiting as well. For the recruiting side of it, I had to pay dues to the Franchise head office to get commissions. For the commissions side, I would have to be licensed or the agent could get in trouble - they have really strict rules to follow.

Hello All,

This is something I deal with on a regular basis. You can receive a "finders fee" on properties located for a Realtor client. They pay it to you as they would any other fee you charge for your service. You can even convert it to billable hours if you like. It is not a commission.
