Default Business Name
While brainstorming to come up with a business name, how can you know if someone else is using the same one?

When I was brainstorming a business name I googled them first to see what came up and then I went on my hosting providers site and searched for the domain name to see if it was taken.

Hope that helps.

Check with your State Business License Division and the State Division of Corporations.

A simple web search is also a good way to see if that name is being used nationwide.

Here we have to do a name search within the atlantic provinces before the name can be registered- just to make sure its not similar to any other. I would say it would be the similar anywhere.
When working on a name as far as getting a domain, you can check something like http://www.whois.net/ or where ever you are registering your domain will most likely have a name search option.

I went to www.godaddy.com and checked every name I came up with!

You would have to do a FBN Index search in your county you are doing business in.
