Default What is the going rate per hour for virtual assistants?
I just found this board but have been a VA for about five years. It is tough getting started but once you do it's easy to get jobs, usually. This economy has hit me hard and I seem to be struggling again. I just had two interviews with Success Connections starting at $21- 30 an hour. Unfortunately, I did not get the jobt but it makes me think how can I make more money.

I started at $8 an hour and now it varies just depending on what I can land and how fast I can get it done. I use Guru a lot and have made a ton of connections there so I do recommend it if you have a lot of patience.

Anyway, I'll be glad to help anyone I can as this is a tough business but my goal for 2009 is to make more money than ever working smarter not harder.

So, thus my question, what do you all charge per hour? Your comments are greatly appreciated!

Tammy,

We can't discuss rates on the forums -

"We don't allow direct discussion of rates on the boards (ie - mentioning actual prices/dollar amounts) because it could potentially be misconstrued as price-fixing and leaves both the VAs in the conversation and the forum owners/admin responsible for an illegal activity. We appreciate your cooperation."

You should have read this in the Forum Terms of Service - Community Rules *BEFORE* posting to the boards.

No we can't discuss rates, however, when I was performing benchmarking efforts. I simply looked at many of my colleagues websites for going rates.. I hope thats helpful.

Rates are determined by many factors and since everyone has different specialities and levels of expertise, and as it is against the forum rules to discuss, you'll need to do your own research. There are several threads here about how to calculate rates or at least get an idea of what you could charge. However, as Tamika mentioned, it is best to se what others are charging by visiting their sites and use this as a guideline.

Welcome to the forum! You have made a great choice. Unfortuntley we can't answer your question however we can give you advice on how to obtain the information you are looking for. For starters it also dpeends on the services you offer and what your niche is. You can do a google search on "Virtual Assistants average hourly rate" or "Virtual Assistant Rates" etc. There is a VA survey that you can buy from the Virtual Assistant Chamber of Commerce that gives you all the information you need on what is going on in the industry. Wishing you the best of luck and be sure to share any great resources you find!!

For me...hourly rates are dependent on the job they require. If they want something typed up...it's one rate. If they want a commercial with me shooting the video...that's a much higher rate than just typing. Like I said before...it is dependent on the job they would like you to perform.

Hope this helps,
