Default What to charge for Typing
I have a potential client who needs a 300 page (100,000 words) document to be re-typed. He wants the price for this service. Do you have any suggestions on how to charge? Per word/per page, etc.

Thanks for your help.

For these types of projects I usually charge per word. Each country has its own average rate so I would recommend you Google a few pages to see what other providers charge in your area/country to give you an idea of what you can charge for the same service.

I personally charge an hourly rate for my time.

Per word or per page is fine, but then it may need formatting etc. that takes longer than simply typing (although you could always factor this in if you prefer per word/page etc.)

I agree with Sabrina, you need to research what others are charging before you come up with your price.

I'd also work per hour, any formatting and editing can add time but not word/page.

And I also agree, research is your friend when dealing with anything for pricing.

Thanks for your responses. The person wanting this work had a maximum he would pay for this project and it wasn't anywhere near what I would have expected for over 20 hours of work.

I would charge by the hour, people dont often realise how long it takes typing thousands of words which is why i dont like charging by the word.

Hello,

I agree with the ladies here, I charge by the hour, since you may not know how long it will take you to finish the project.

What type of document is it? Is there some way you can scan it and then just reformat it instead of retyping the whole thing? That would probably take less time.

I would definitely charge by the hour as well. It may seem as easy as just typing but if there's formatting and proofreading involved it will take a lot more time.

But does anyone have a ballpark word/page or hourly rate for let's say a simple manuscript with no tables or graphics?
