Default Time tracking AND invoicing
I read a thread with lots of ideas on what programs are good for time tracking, and another on invoicing, but I was wondering if anyone has any suggestions for a program that does both.
I am just tracking my own hours, but I don't want something with a monthly fee. I figure it doesn't take that many months until I would have paid for an expensive piece of software like Quickbooks already. I also have a mac, which seems to be making this more limiting. Does anyone have any suggestions?

I have a MAC but also have Windows through Bootcamp. I use Freshbooks for my invoicing and Outright (I think that's what it's called) for my basic record keeping needs. Freshbooks integrates nicely with Outright in that money owed and paid for by your clients will automatically be input into Outright. Both are online and FREE. Also, there's a really nice little FREE timer widget (or whatever you call those things...lol) that you can get for the MAC that, I believe integrates with Freshbooks. Unfortunately, I haven't been able to use it yet because most of the work I do is on the Windows side (eventually, I'm hoping to remedy that ). I can't remember what it's called, but you can do a GOOGLE search for MAC widgets or timers or Freshbooks and probably find it.

I am also using Freshbooks for time tracking and invoicing. The widget they offer (TimerSync, I believe) is fantastic! It sits right on your desktop and will communicate your activity directly to your account at Freshbooks. I would highly recommend it, though should warn you that I'm fairly new at this. Good luck!

Hello there,

I just signed up with Freshbooks and form the little bit that I have interacted with the site, I see that it's really good. I even got a call from them, welcoming me. I would definately recommend them.

Freshbooks looks really good, but I have one problem with it. It only allows 3 clients on the free version. Doesn't that make problems, or is there some way around it? I'm not inherently against paying for a good program, but this one charges monthly, and I'd really rather not be paying for the rest of my life, that can really add up. If I buy a program I want to pay once and be done with it.

Hi Layah,

OfficeTime is a time tracking program that allows you to create customized invoices. It is compatible with Mac and is a one-time purchase, I really like the program. Hope that helps!

Kate,

I've heard great things about Office Time and since you seem to like it, I will definately give it a try

Thanks for the vote of confidence Denyse, you're very sweet. Another added bonus of OfficeTime for me was that when I bought, it looks like the developer is from Edmonton, which I liked. Of course, a Calgary developer would be even better , but I was happily surprised to see someone local.

Good luck!

Layla, If you don't work with more than 3 clients at a time, you can always delete the ones you aren't working with. Freshbooks saves the info, and you can un-delete whenever you want as long as there are only 3 active at one time. I did it like this for a while and it worked well for me.
