Default Software for Invoices
Hi all,

What software do you find works best for your practice? I have heard that QuickBooks is pretty good. As I currently don't have any accounting software, I will need to go and purchase one befeore my business launches in the new year.

What do you guys find is the best software for your invoicing?

Hi Denyse,

I use PayPal to send invoices and receive my payments. I use Excel to do my accounting. At PayPal you can download your monthly reports in an excel format. If you get QuickBooks, PayPal will allow you to download your reports directly to your QuickBooks program.

I use Excel quite a bit for work, and I also use it to keep track of my overtime hours at my full-time job.

I thought about using Excel for my business' accounting needs, but keep hearing all these good things about Quick Books. I definately want to check it out and get other VA's feedback about the software before I go spending the money to purchase it.

Thanks again for your opinion Andrea, it is greatly appreciated

Denyse,

You may want to start with QB Online which is free to use. I would hold off on purchasing QB since the 2010 version is now available but last year Intuit ran several specials where you were able to get the Pro version for either free or at a steep discount. Keep watching the threads since we have members who keep up on this and will post when special pricing becomes available.

I use Paypal to send out invoices. What I don't like about Paypal is mixing up my business invoices with my own purchases that I pay for with Paypal. This is what I mean.

I will invoice a client for $100 or so. Client pays invoice.
Now I buy something for $100 which I want to put on my credit card that is on Paypal. But I am not given that option. They use the $100 credit for my purchase.

I questioned this with Paypay but to no avail, this is their policy.

So, just wondering does anyone use Paypal for client invoicing, but also another provider for their own purchases so as not to mix this up in the one account? So you would really need two business accounts.

I don't have any experience with any other provider but Paypal.
Would appreciate feedback

Thanks
