Default Rate for Non-Virtual Services
I was contacted by an Insurance Agent to assist him with completing his new client applications. This would involve actually going to the client's home, asking them medical questions, and having them sign the applications (original signatures are required). Minus travel time, the whole process would take less than 30 minutes.

What do you think a reasonable rate would be? I would like to set a flat fee for this, within a certain radius of course. Has anyone ever done anything like this?

By the way, I am insurance licensed so there is no conflict with me doing this.

Thanks!

I didn't realize that I could not discuss specific rates in the forum. So I will rephrase my question. Do you think that a flat rate or an hourly rate would work best for this situation?

If your experience says 30 minutes on-site, then I would estimate 45 minutes on-site. Use a mapping site to estimate travel time, add 15% to that (for traffic). Next calc round-trip mileage (also from the mapping site) at .51 cents/mile (federal per diem rate).

Were I you, I would charge a flat fee for on-site (think 45 minutes times your rate) and then say that travel time at 50% of your hourly rate and mileage are billed IN ADDITION to the flat fee at actual cost. This will allow you to have multiple jobs for this client, they will always know how much on-site fees are, and that the travel time and mileage are based on client location.
