Default Rate for 6 hour workshop
I've been asked to go to a private college and do a 6 hour workshop on "business administration: setting up your small business". I've done similar group faciliations in the past year on general self employment so I'm pretty confident on the material I have planned. I will be speaking to personal fitness trainers.

***So my question is: How much should I charge to teach the workshop? Do I base by hour or by head count or?

The charge goes to the college-not the students. The last few workshops I did were through my full time job so I only got paid my regular salary.

There will be about 15-20 students. Not all of them will want to be self-employed/business owners either so that will be a challenge keeping them engaged. If this goes well, I will be asked to come back for the next semester and am also looking at another potential niche school.

Tips on teaching techniques and putting together handout materials are also appreciated (what worked-what didn't). It's been 7 months since I taught in front of groups so I'm a little rusty.

Thanks for your input!

Julie

Default Re: Rate for 6 hour workshop
Hi Julie, good question! I'm not sure how I would charge for this kind of thing although I lean toward setting a 'day rate' (rather than hourly or by head count)... I would start with something that will at least cover your hourly for the time involved PLUS preparation and of course you want to charge based on value as well.

Is the college charging the attendees?

Ultimately, with this kind of thing you're not selling your time, you're selling your expertise, which I believe is worth more than $XX per hour.

I don't know if this helped at all but I'll be curious to learn how you decide to charge for this. It sounds like fun!
