Default Raising Your Virtual Assistant Rates
There is a good article about raising your rates on the Men With Pens site - "How to Increase Your Rates for the New Year" by James, Nov 28/08. For any of you who are facing that.

Deb

p.s. I couldn't seem to get into the General Business section (within the General Business forum) today to post this, so I posted it here. The link seems to be pointing back to the upper level General Business forum. Clear as mud...

Hello Dejam, and thanks for the link. I really learned a thing or two
just by reading it. I'm a new VA and just thinking about raising my rates
in the near future sends some shivers down my spine! So many what ifs.
However, the article cleared some issues for me. Thanks!

This was a good article.

I personally think that we owe it to ourselves and to the Virtual Assistant industry to raise our rates regularly. Most of us, and I dare say all of us, are highly-skilled, highly-trained professionals who provide great value to our clients. We deserve to be compensated accordingly.

Also, I believe setting appropriate rates and raising them as we offer greater value equals greater respect. Low rates give the impression of the employee/employer mentality. Higher (but properly set) rates reflect the equal Business Owner to Busines Owner relationship -which in fact our VA profession is.

You know we often feel we should be grateful a job since we work at home. I've learned since looking at these boards just how low my rates are. I think I need a raise as well!

As I was reading through, one thought came to mind. I am located in the Midwest, our rates here are less than either coast. I have been getting some referrals from the coasts. Do you set your rates for the coasts or the region you are from?

Is it better to have a flat "national" rate?

Ann

Thanks for sharing the wonderful article. I agree with Carol that we owe it to ourselfs and the industry to raise our rates. I know for me personally it was hard (and sometimes still is) to charge "that much" for only doing that? In other words...paying myself what I'm worth. It was hard for me to get used to the idea when I was first starting that someone would be willing to pay me for creating a simple flyer that took me less than 20 minutes.
