Default Postage and Shipping Charges
Hi! Happy Friday!

I was wondering about postage and shipping cost. Is this something you allocate in your fees to your client? Or do you post it as a business expense?

I hope all is well with you all!

If you are shipping as part of a client project, then you should expense them to the client and create a pass-through account for the expenses. Example: shipping out packages to your client's customers.

If it is for gathering information to and from the client then it would be an expense for your business.

I offer mailings, shipping, bulk printing, and anything that I have to "pay" for at cost or, depending on what it is, maybe a convenience fee and add those costs to the bill. Be sure to stipulate this in your agreement

Happy Friday to you too!

Sharetha,

For most packages I use USPS Priority. I have also used Federal Express and UPS, usually deciding based on cost or if the client informs me that delivery is better with a certain service.

I like USPS because you can either drop in your local mail or request a pick-up with no additional fee. I live in a rural area and this is the best option for me.

Regardless of what you use I would stock up on a few supplies from each so that you have packaging on hand. Shipping fees and labels can be printed online for all vendors and usually they give you a small price break to create shipments in this fashion.

Thanks for sharing that information. It does make sense to have some mailing supplies on hand.

Have a great day!

That was great advice. I also keep FedEx, USPS, and UPS supplies at home. You can simply go online, print out the mailing labels, call for a pickup, and presto, it's as easy as that.

Great point to point out, as Lee says, keep those supplies handy. Even if you live near mailing facilities as I do -- who wants to make trips to the PO or to a FedEx facility?

I believe that USPS will deliver you supplies if you request them on their Web site.

Awesome! One less trip will help out a lot.

Have a great day everyone!
