Default Need A Little Advice
Hi Guys,

I have just been asked to do a project for someone which i havent done before, creating a template for a newsletter copytyping and mailing them out.
I did a quote for the client which included cost of paper, envelopes, postage and ink and my time taken to do it, but when i got the reply back from the client they said i had forgotton to quote for setting up the template.

I would have thought this was covered by the time taken and I am unsure of how to assess how much to charge for setting up the template.
Has anyone got any ideas on how I should price this or is there a standard pricing for this.

Thanks
Karen

Hi Karen,
I don't know of any 'standard' pricing for setting up a newsletter template - what program will you use to create it? How much content is going into the newsletter (how many pages?) and what does the client have in mind? Do you need to include and format images along with the text? Etc.... Lots of variables would go into that bid.

I'm sorry I don't have a good answer for you other than to suggest that you charge the client hourly for this part of task. Hopefully someone else can weigh in with a better suggestion?

Karen,

Are you starting from scratch or customizing a template already in place? Are you charging enough that the template could be included in the initial proposal?

It is hard to advise as every situation and scenario is different. However, you can either give the client a ball park time frame for the template and let them know this will be billed hourly. Or you can do come quick calculations and come back with a package offer.

Each of my packages, while hourly in nature, are customized to the client based on their needs.

Sorry I could not be of more help.

Hi Guys,

I have only just come back on and seen your replies (sorry for some reason I didn't get any email notification like I usually do to let me know there were replies)
Thanks for advice, it was very use ful I decided to incorperate it in my hourly fee, and the client was very happy with the overal service so it was a job well done.

Many Thanks
