Question Minimum Billing?
I'm sure there is probably a thread on this already, but I can't find it. Do you charge a 1 hour minimum on projects. I have multiple clients in one company and have just been dividing the time spent on shared project by number of clients. Sometimes that works out to less than 1 hour for some of them since they don't use my services on other projects. Should I be charging them each one hour minimum?

I have a minimum charge policy of 1/2 hour and I make sure that everyone knows about it up front. Retrofittng this into effect in a situation where you are already established with a customer may require extra care. I'd handle it like any other increase: let them know that you will be establishing a new policy with regard to billing and it will take effect at a certain future point.

It is good to stick with a minimum of 5 hours-especially if they are new clients- so you actually earn. This is also another form of setting boundaries to help filter the good from the bad clients.

Thank you both for the input. It is good to hear what other VA's are doing.

Take care,
Karen

I bill in 15 minute increments with a minimum of 1 hour/month. This has worked well for me.

I'm planning to require a minimum four hours, but I'm not sure which is fair to the client and yet meaningful for me. If one bills in increments which shouldd be used: 15 minutes or six minutes?

I tend to use 15 minute increments and 15 is my minimum. I haven't had anybody complain about it yet.

For non-retainer clients, I charge a 1-hour minimum.
