Default How much to charge for social marketing?
Good Afternoon,

My client wants me to do all his social marketing. What is a reasonable hourly rate to charge?

Please let me know! I have to prepare a proposal.

Thanks,
Celia

good question - and I am sure you will be able to get a lot of great feedback from VAF.

another option to consider is by project/item rather than by hour -- whatever works for you and for your client.

Hello Celia,

Unfortunately, we don't really discuss rates here on the forums. Rates are determined by each virtual assistant based upon experience and skill level.

I would suggest that you peruse other virtual assistant sites to see what it is they charge for social media services.

Determine what you want to profit and factor in your expenses and any additional business costs you may have.

Sorry to be so vague but what you charge is really a personal choice.

You may wish to charge a package rate as Deb suggests. Many VAs offer a packaged, value plan for social media where clients pay a specific rate for maintaining several social media websites. The reason is...charging a flat fee is much easier to do since you know ahead of time what needs to be done. Whereas an hourly fee is typically charged when the tasks required to perform the job enter into the 'unknown'.

You can also charge a packaged rate and then anything over that amount can be hourly as well. And I know that doesn't answer your question with numbers but rates vary from VA to VA as I mentioned.

Janine has some great points - I think the rate would also vary from VA to VA as some are truly specialists in the niche of social media, while others are literally just starting out. A specialist can obviously command a higher fee.

It's been said that a virtual assistant cannot charge less than $35 and make a profit in business (given all of the non-billable hours, the need to handle your own taxes, bookkeeping, medical/dental etc.) I don't necessarily agree that tasks like data entry or link building are worth quite that much - that's an exceptionally high fee to charge for something so base. But if you're an established, successful virtual assistant your hour is worth what it's worth no matter what you're working on and certainly specialized services should land at least around that range, if not higher if you have special training or a lot of experience and insight to offer a client.

You may also want to take the area your client is located in and the type of business they have in addition to what their needs are. Go to various sites who offer similar services in similar circumstances and see what (if stated) their rates are.

I think rates are based on skill and expertise. Every virtual assistant has different skill sets and experience, also the final work derives from this.
Customers have a choice, just like in any other market (example: Sales, Neiman Marcus pays double or triple to a sales person compared to let's say Ross. Both employees are sales people but they have different expertise, experience and satisfied different demands from the client. It is the same with a Virtual Assistant.
An On-site Executive Assistant earns on average 30-60K (San Francisco). An we are also Executive Assistants (depending on your niche).
You should based your rates depending on your expertise, experience and results. I hope this helped.

Super information! Janine, the VA Training Book that you recommend...Does it have a client intake sheet in it? Also, I am from Canada. Is there still a lot of info that would be relevant if you have a VA business outside of the US? I have a Canadian book but there aren't many forms to use. I also want to work at putting together a Welcome Pack and found a great thread on that. What a great forum!

Hi Camilla,

The New Client Welcome Packet Includes a Client Intake form. Please see this link. http://www.virtualassistantforums.co....php?p=158087/

Yes, the information would be relevant to Canadian VAs. I believe only the tax issue is not relevant and there are no tax documents included in any of the VA products on VAF.

There is a tremendous amount of information on VAF. You will love it here!

If you have any questions, please let me know and I'l be more than pleased to help out.

Janine
