I've just received an enquiry from a potential client who would like me to do their accounts, thats all I know at the moment, its not a service that I offer but I may outsource it if the client decides to hire me or refer the client elsewhere

My question is what sort of questions should I be asking the client in relation to accounts to find out what kind of assistance they need.

There are a lot of questions that need to be asked, here are a few that I think of just off of the top of my head:

What software program and version are you using?

What type of company is it?

Do you maintain inventory? (I myself don't handle inventory, I work primarily with service based companies only)

Are you on a cash or accrual basis? (Not sure if this applies in countries other than US)

Do you have payroll?

How often do you want the accounts updated? Weekly, Bi-Weekly, Monthly?

Who will be handling the data entry?
