Default Changes, Deletions, Additions to Client Work
How, when do you make corrections, changes, deletions, additions, and the like to Client's work: while working on project, after project is completed. Do you charge extra for changes, corrections, etc. Do you just let time cover the changes, corrections, etc. without regard for dollars?

I estimated the time and cost it would take to make the changes. My charges include a version with the tracked changes and the revised version. That way the client can see what changes were made.
Hope that helps.

I stipulate in the project how many edits and changes can occur. So if a client wants a website created, I will allow for up to 3 edits per page and then after that I charge an hourly fee.

If the corrections are of my own doing, of course I do not charge or include these as part of the plan.

But if the client changes her mind more than 3 times, I will be compensated for that time.

I found that if the contract does not stipulate how many changes can occur then the edits and changes can go on and on...

I also offer a maintenance package that the client can purchase after the project is done. Often times this will be used to make any additional edits after the project is completed.

I do the same as Janine and spell out the number of edits/changes in the contract.

I do general admin at the moment and have it stipulated in my contract that changes need to be notified within 72 hours, after that and I charge, whether it was my error or not. This (I think) makes sure that the client pays attention to the work I'm sending through and proofreads it promptly.
I also stipulate that if it is different to what the client asked for initially then I will charge for that as it was not what was in the original contract.

Hope that makes sense.

Janine, What a great idea! What happens if there aren't any further changes? Do you apply fees to the next project?

It absolutely does. I would think this method reduces the "I said I wanted...but you did..." problem and is a method I will use. Thank you for it.

The client purchases the maintenance plan anticipating changes so there always are changes.

I don't offer refunds.

Oooooohhhhhh! That all make sense. It's basically an ongoing coverage for the client just in case it's needed?

AL,

This is billed by the month, use it or lose it. That's how it works. But anyone who has a website should always have changes to keep the site fresh.
