I haven't tried that one Maria. I came across OnStage when I was searching Google for "similar to Basecamp" because I wanted to find something low cost/free when I started out. My clients think that OnStage is great and so do I. You can upgrade and pay for additional items, but basically it has everything I need. I can add a project and define the team and users, set tasks and milestones on a project, send messages, etc. One of my favourite things is the File Vault. My client can upload the report template and when I retreive it, the team gets a message telling them that someone is working on the file and then again when it is available I think. It means that you can have a file and know that it is the only version and that three people aren't all making amendments at the same time! It's web based and means my clients can upload quite large files without having to email them and risk crashing our systems - you know what it's like with some of those big audio files! Oh - almost forgot - I was also able to upload my logo and change the colours of the site to match my colours, so it's all consistent - looks very professional! I'd be interested to hear more about 1st Manager or any other project management software - it's a great resource for VA's.

Cheers,
Marie

Hi
I've just had a quick look at it and it looks interesting. I've been looking for cheap (read free!) project management software for a while now so thanks for this.

I've use Project Companion and Projjex before, but wasn't impressed as their inexpensive versions are very limiting. Central Desktop is pretty good though and not expensive.

I would also suggest Freshbooks. I use it as it allows up to 3 projects for free and is compatlible with the Iphone. It has time tracking, export, invoicing, estimates, and payment options. Really good program to start and easy to learn.

Just FYI

I love Freshbooks. I just started using it because it allows you and your subcontractors to keep your time all in one place. Your subs can use it for their own clients too plus they can invoice you directly from their own Freshbooks account. It's a great solution but it's not perfect. Not yet. It integrates beautifully with Basecamp too. I also use MailMangr which also integrates with Basecamp. MailManagr allows you to forward your emails (including attachments) directly into Basecamp so there's no more cutting and pasting and toggling between the two.

These 3 tools have saved me a ton of time. They all offer free versions but the paid versions are well worth it and not very expensive. I make the subscriptions part of my monthly business expenses and they're tax deductible.

Interesting to know you use both basecamp and freshbooks, I guess they each cover different areas?

Basecamp is a project management software that does have timetracking available on the Plus plan and higher. At the present time I don't have a need for the Plus plan so I use Freshbooks for time tracking and invoicing. Regardless of the time tracking feature offered by Freshbooks, it's an excellent invoicing tool.

Since the 2 software programs integrate with each other it makes it an ideal solution for me until such time that my client base outgrows these programs. (and I don't see that ever happening)

I also have a few links to share.

Its nice to have a variety of project management "assistant" programs that we can choose from, simply because we do not all work the same. Or there may be items in a program that we do not find the use for.
