Default Remote Server Recos
Hi,

I have a client who wants to use a remote server to manage/work on his projects. This would be something he and I would both access along with his other associates.

I explained some options like MS Sharepoint etc. Can anyone recommend some others? I know WebEx has WebEx office and there is also Hyperoffice, but I am not sure if he needs anything that sophisticated.

Thanks!

Hi Doreen:

Currently I use www.LogMeIn.com to view another's computer from a remote location. Actually I use it to access my office computer from my laptop. You can see the desktop of the remote computer as if you were right in front of it. I am still working with the software in order to become more familiar with it before I use it with a client.

I am sure there are a few others as well.

The only one I have ever used is GoToMyPC because that is the one my client had already set up. They also offer a 30-day free trial so you can test it out. I have also used the remote access that is built-in to Windows XP. I prefer the GoToMyPC as it allows you to print to your local printer.

Thanks for the suggestions, but he is looking more for a remote platform to move files and projects around versus having them on his hard drive with me having remote access. His internet connections are spotty and he doesn't want to have to worry about me not being able to get to files and for him having to send them to me. Thanks!

Check out Google Docs if you just need to transfer basic word processing/spreadsheet documents back and forth.

You might want to check out Basecamp its a project management software that I've been hearing alot of good things about. I havent personally used it yet but will be. At the moment I use LogMeIn for basic remote access and its free

So you're looking for more of a document library type of setup?
We just ended up building our own so we could make it do what we wanted

But, I did work with Sharepoint for a while before that and it was decent enough - the only thing I didn't like was that it felt slow and cumbersome in terms of internal organizing - like if you already had a bunch of files and folders established and wanted to reorganize and move stuff around it was a real pain.
