Default How to share a very large file
I have been given a disc with a massive amount of typing to transcribe. I have a co worker who wants to help type but I have no idea how to file share or send it to her. The file is 4gb ( i know massive)

Any ideas?

Aside from sending the file back and forth via FTP [likely your best free option] check out some of the file sending/sharing options in the Virtual Assistant Forums Directory.

You could also use Audacity [free] to break the file up into parts and send her chunks rather than try to move the whole thing.

Tess, thanks for these options

I have the same problems, just wondering if this works for videos too? I have a video I made and I was trying to send it over to a friend. She has XP 2002 and I have Vista with Office 2007. She gets the file but can't view the video, she can only hear the audio which is kind of odd. Then she is asked to choose the program to open it up. So I am wondering if this is just a conflict with our different OSs or something else.

Does anyone know of any programs especially for transmitting video clips?
I know I could upload it to Utube but dont want to do this unless necessary.

Thanks in advance
Jo-Carole

What program did you make the video in?

Try www.ustream.tv
You can password protect your videos

Hi Amanda,
Sorry for just getting back....

Actually I don't know
I have a Flip Camcorder and I just recorded the video clip with that. Normally I have no problems sending over the computer to anyone. So I just thought it was a conflict because I am on Vista and my friend is on XP 2002....

I see more info here and realized what the problem is!

So the issue isn't necessarily with filesize - you said your friend gets audio only, etc. The issue is actually with the file TYPE. We have a Flip also and had the same problem when trying to share videos with other people - I honestly can't recall what the player was that they had to download to be able to view our videos, it's a fairly common one, and free... but run a search on Google for the filetype your video saved as and see if you can find it. Then have your friend install that and try playing the video again - should be just fine!

I use dropsend.com for sending large files. You can send up to 5 1GB files per month for free and then they have some paid options after that. I like that it sends me an email confirmation after the other party has downloaded the file.

Sorry Tess, just saw this post , and apologize for replying 4 months later I will Google it and post what I come up with. My Flip doesn't work anymore and so I bought an RCA camcorder/camera with e-mail capability. I am afraid to send it to an e-mail address though since I had problems with e-mailing before and then not be able to get my own messages. I think it's just easier to find a good video share site and then give people the link for that. I have a free share site that came with this camcorder called Box.com but there was an error when uploading so I am looking again for a site. Thanks for the help!
