How does 'log me in' work? it says it allows me access to my computer if I am not at it. Does it take your IP address onto their server and then you can grab anything from your pc from another location? How do you use this service? Can it also be a file sharing location?

You download logmein onto the computer you want to access and setup a username and password, then you can go to logmein.com and enter your user name and password and access your computer just as if you were sitting in front of it. The free version only lets you access the computer and work on it, but you can upgrade to a paid version which would let you print from your computer to whatever location you are at and also transfer files back and forth.

I just use the free version and if I need a file transferred or need to print something I just email it to myself. I can access my email through the internet and then print the file that way.

Logmein doesn't work well on a laptop though because your laptop automatically shuts down to save power after a period of time therefore disconnecting it from the server. I have a laptop and a desktop so I store everything on my desktop which is continuously connected (unless the power goes out) and then I use my laptop to access the desktop remotely if I'm not at home.

I amagine this service could be useful if you were meeting a new client and discussing what kind of servies you can provide. You could elbow the client out of the way to use his pc then (use logmein) to grab your powerpoint marketing presentation and show him/her the service/capabilities you can provide.. On this topic though, how would you approach the sensitive nature of 'give me access to your business server/database' to save you time sending me emails. Or would this be a no no? Maybe once trust is gained and you have contracted for long enough this might be an option.. Has anyone done this?

I currently use Remote Access for my client. They set my laptop up for me to log into their server. Before I log out of QB, I back it up to a specific drive set aside for that purpose

I have tried to get them to use either Logmein or Go To My PC and they don't want to spend the money for it since we utilize Remote Access.

I have XP Pro on my desktop which comes with remote access capability. I also have a laptop with XP (not Pro version). I printed off the instructions of how to be able to use the remote access between the two, but it asked me for an IP address, which I didn't know how to find and that was the end of it.

I'm not a techie person, I've always had access to a computer guy before. Usually I can figure stuff out if I'm willing to take the time to do it, but I figured why bother, logmein is free so I'll just use that instead. Plus I can use it from any computer, I don't think you can do that with the remote access that comes on the computer because it has to be configured and setup.

I really don't know, I'm probably just talking out of my ***. It's probably really simple and I just am too technologically challenged to figure it out. LOL
