Default Help! Too many choices
I keep hearing about various utilities for calendar management, file sharing, file transfer, logging into clients computers and time tracking. I've looked at LogMeIn, GoToMyPC, Google Calendar, ClientSpot, etc., etc. I'm starting to think I'm doing TOO much research! They're all starting to look the same, although some are definitely more expensive. How can I wade through all these to make a decision?

I know I could just sign up for some free trials (one at a time), to see how they work for me, but I can see that raising even more problems. Although, if the first one works, I guess I would just stay with it!

Are there any that do *everything*? i.e., time tracking + file sharing + calendar management? What about backups/security?

Thanks for any help!

Hi Sharon - I ran into the same problem. There are many collaboration suites out there but they tend to get a bit pricey. My end result after taking part in all the free trials available is that unless I can land a contract that will actually cover the cost of the product and still make money I'm better off sticking with MS Office, One Note, Google apps.

Some systems I've used myself, or had to use because my client uses them are:

Basecamp: they have a ton of addons, so you can pick and choose which features you want (and therefore pay for). For example, they have time tracking.

DeskAway: this is my personal favorite - pricing is so reasonable (~$10 (2 lattes) /month for the basic account, ), their customer service is outstanding. Calendar, time tracking, file sharing, system-based docs (like a wiki), internal blogs, plus project management - tasks, milestones, etc.. Easy backups.

Zimbra: this is an open source project, so no cost except your time to get it installed. Email, doc sharing, wiki, calendar. No project management features or time tracking.
