Default Client has Mac...I have a PC...how to sync files??
Happy New Year everyone!

I have a client that uses a MAC and an IPhone. I currently work with MS XP on my PC and use a BlackBerry.

Is there a program out there that we could utilize to share calendars, contacts, and documents that would sync with both systems???

Anyone else have a similar situation?

I would greatly appreciate any suggestions or feedback you could offer.

Thanks and have a great day!

Suzanne

Hi Suzanne,

I have a MAC, but I have a Parallels Desktop on it which allows me to run dual operating systems. So, I have MAC and Windows XP and all the windows applications....running on my MAC.

You could also use Open Office. It runs on all platforms. http://www.openoffice.org
And it is free.

Hope this helps.
Sue

What about Google CalDav?

Since Google is web based, it is not platform specific. I do know that Google CalDav works with Blackberry as well as iPhone.

Thanks for these tips. I just got a Mac laptop a few weeks back and am in the process of moving stuff, but have been wondering about working for others who are PC based, since my Mac is so much more portable.

I would think that all web based programs would work like officezilla and zoho, right? I don't have a Mac but I wish I had. I went to an Apple store and they told me what Sue said. you are able to have Windows on the Mac as well. It's like having two different computers in one.

If it's just for documents, Google Apps will sync up files on Macs and PCs. The types of documents that Google Apps handles are word, excel, calendar. Plus, if you're using the Microsoft suite of products on the intel Macs, you can just open files directly from PCs without the need to do any conversion.

This is the general rule.

A Mac will convert PC files, but a PC will not convert Mac files.

If you have a Mac and have PC clients, there shouldn't be a problem, as long as you have the software installed that can interpret them. Most of this software also has the capability to convert them back to PC files also.

If the software the PC client is using is very industry specific, there are several companies that make software so you can run Windows and aforementioned software on your Mac.

If you have a PC and have Mac clients....I'm not sure what to tell you. The Mac operating system was designed to allow this sort of sharing. Windows wasn't.

Hi Suzanne - I made the switch from Mac back to PC last fall due to the need for accounting software Canada (there's none for Mac in Canada). However, prior to that i made use of DropBox, Zoho, Tungle.me, Google calendar/docs etc.

As far as dealing with conversion issues - the one problem I had is that i had Office 2010 for my Mac and my clients often didn't have the newest version of office. Office 2010 is not 100% compatible and so would result in spreadsheets that would convert with only one sheet - not the workbook etc.. The solution to this was saving all files in the older office format. (.doc rather than .docx).

I hope this helps
