I'm not sure if this topic has been addressed before, so I apologize if it has. I just got my business cards (finally!) and I was wondering if anyone has gotten clients through putting up their cards on bulletin boards in coffee shops, cafes, etc.

We've done that in the past for our web design business and have posted flyers for other businesses. So far I've never gotten one lead from doing either of these things. All my current clients, 100%, are either word of mouth referrals or people I met at networking groups.

I haven't done it yet, but I was thinking about it, my husband has offered to put one of my brochures and my business card up.

I guess it can't hurt, at least you're getting your name out there. You just never know!

I have left business cards here and there. There is this restaurant in a little po-dunk town in Eastern OK (about 3 hours away from where I live) that has all kinds of business cards under the glass counter by the cash register. So, as I was leaving I put one of mine there. I got an email about a couple of month's later from a girl wanting to know how to become a virtual assistant.

Point: I haven't got any business from it yet, but you never know who and when someone will see your card and contact you. In a million years I never thought anyone would see that card and actually contact me.


Whenever I go to an airport I leave brochures and business cards in the business lounge and by the laptop hookups. You never know!

I haven't done it but if its easy than take advantage of it I guess. My gym has a table that has business cards etc. But honestly, I've never looked at that table, nor do I think it would be a place I think of when I'm looking for a business.

I've left my cards on bulletin boards even the one at our nearby Hollywood video. But whenever, I check a few weeks later, they are gone, and I don't get the feeling they were taken potential clients since I've never gotten a call from someone saying they got my card from a bulletin board.

Also, I have two set of business cards. My really nice, high-end ones are for networking and my regularly printed ones in different places and on bulletin boards.

I seem to be the only person who reads bulletin boards. I got even the contact of a local womens' business group on the supermarket board and am going to attend my first dinner with them tonight.

I will make some flyers and put them up, just in case there's someone else like me who actually reads those boards.

Your idea about the business lounge in airports or laptop points is a good idea. For me this is the audience/my target market I want to reach. I know business cards can be printed by the 100's but at the end of the day its money being spent. Where ever you choose to display your business cards, choose wisely.
