Default Laws on Rear Window Decals
Does anyone know if there are laws regarding a sticker advertisement on your rear window? Or where I could begin to look for these laws? I tried a google search already - but could mostly only find things about window tinting - so I thought I would check here while I wait for the DOT to open and maybe give them a call.

Best bet would be to give the DOT a call and the answer strait from their mouth.

I agree that a quick call to your DOT will most likely be the quickest answer to your question. However, I can add that in North Carolina you can not have a decal on your back window. I had to remove mine when I moved here before they would inspect my car.

What an interesting topic - it never even occurred to me that this might be an issue. We don't have anything on our back car window at the moment but have talked about it a great deal lately.

Please post back with what you find for your city or state, I'm very curious.

Thanks!

In Canada we see a lot of decals some very large ones too. My concern is how much of your vision is blocked. There really is no great spot to cover up that back window.

Cheers!!

Let us know what the response is from the DOT, as Bernice said in Canada we see a lot of decals so it never occurred to me that it would be against the law in some places.
Hopefully as long as you are not obstructing your view there won't be a problem with a small decal.

I am in Illinois and I called the DOT yesterday - I got transferred to 5 different people and finally got to someone who didn't answer the phone or have voicemail set up - ha. So I'm going to try again today and I will let you all know.

Finally got through to someone and they sent me this email:

From my understanding, there can be anything on the vehicle windows as long as they are not on windows adjacent to each side of the driver. So basically the advertisements just need to follow the guidelines of the tint law. Exceptions apply to vehicles manufactures prior to January 1, 1982 or if such driver is suffering from a medical disease and have been issued a medical exemption. Please let me know if I can get you anymore information.
