Default Releasing a Press Release for Specific Locations
Hi Everyone,

I'm going to be releasing a press release soon and was hoping to generate interest in my specific area. I plan to send it to local media outlets here directly, but am wondering if it's worthwhile or makes to sense to also release it through some of the free submission sites online.

What do you think?

YES!!!!!!!!!!!

Among other things you will create backlinks to your site which will help your SEO efforts. Just make sure you use the ones Diana Ennen suggests in the forum archives here on Press Releases.

Hi

I would definitely recommend sending it online to the free places as well as some of the paid submission places. It's so worth it. It can be time consuming, but once you get signed up with the places it goes a lot faster. The key is to make sure you keep your log in and passwords handy so you can easily log in.

What I do too to save time is when I convert to notepad, I'll put the summary and keywords in there too so I can easily do a copy and paste. I'll often copy it all in the body of the form and then cut and paste from there so I don't have to go back and forth from notepad.

Thanks!

Diana,
I haven't read the archives on this topic, yet but off hand, can you say which paid sites you recommend for press releases?

Also, do you recommend that the contact name in the release be the client or the VA doing the posting? I have a client who has asked me to use my name as the contact information, which I don't mind, but she says that it looks better to have someone else's name there so it looks more professional (as if they have a PR department other than themselves). What are your thoughts?

Shari, I didn't see anything in the archives about whose name to put as the contact. Perhaps I missed that?

Thanks, Diana.

I did quickly learn to put the summary and the key words in file with the press releases so I didn't have to redo them each time. I like your idea of using the Notepad since that keeps all the formatting gobbleygook out of it.

I put the client's name in as the contact since that was what he had on his original press release. He'll forward any information to me that he wants me to follow up on anyway.

Hi there
I thought I'd jump in here as I've submitted releases for both clients and for my own sites and for the clients I have often used myself as the contact - it depends on the individual client's preference, but it certainly doesn't do any harm to put yourself as the press contact if that's what is requested.

When I was first starting out as a VA I really got a kick out of being listed as the contact (I am so easily impressed! LOL)

Thank you, I was wondering if one was better than the other. I thought that the client would want their own name in the contact information but she would like me to use my name so that it appears to come from a PR person.
