Default Press Release Kits
Does anyone send out press release kits? I joined that online course about how to write a press release and there was mention of putting together a press release kit with business card, letter, press release, biography, etc... It was also said that some people won't read any of those things and it may be a waste of money... Has it worked for anybody here?

So you send it to potential clients? Does that seem to work out well?

I (finally) just send out such a packet, but not to the media, just to a short list of warm leads. Seems unlikely the press or any cold connection is going to jump on a VA's press packet, but someone who's maybe kinda vaguely interested in what it's all about might just take a few minutes with it, and maybe might just get in touch. Know what I mean?

I think what you mean is a 'press kit' - I've developed them for clients who do a lot of interviews and rec'v media requests but have never created one for myself.

Traditionally, the idea is to send it to the press but as Mary mentioned it's a neat way to send out marketing materials to potential clients...a bit expensive if you're doing a paper version as opposed to digital, but still if you have the time to put one together, it won't hurt to have on hand.

I think the idea of sending them to potential clients is a great idea! I can't believe I didn't even think of it, I used to work for a publishing company and put together tons of Media Kits for clients! You're right though it would get expensive, I guess you would definitely have to be sure that person is interested. What if I put on my website that clients can request a Marketing Kit??? But would I call it a Marketing Kit???

Sure - definitely And I don't know why I didn't think to mention it before, but for one of my clients who wanted a strictly digital version but did not want to go the CD route, I created her kit as a Powerpoint presentation...it's a great solution and cuts the cost way down to practically nothing, aside from the time it takes you to create it.
